Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, is still pushing for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney, and is looking to collect 100,000 names in support of his cause.
“Kucinich introduced articles of impeachment against the Vice President on April 24, 2007, because ‘the Vice President actively and systematically sought to deceive the citizens and Congress about an alleged threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction’,” reported commondreams.org. Along with the petitioners, 16 members of the House have signed onto the non-binding resolution to impeach the vice president.
Kucinich touted his resolution at Saturday’s Yearly Kos Convention, a gathering of liberal bloggers where many of the Democratic presidential candidates met to discuss their platforms.
Although Kucinich is considered a long shot for president, as reflected in a cartoon by Brian Fairrington, he has emerged as the candidate most in line with the stances of over 48,000 people who took an online survey developed by Naked News’s Matt Waterman. The results, which are reportedly calculated every five minutes, show that more than half of the surveyed agreed most with Kucinich.
“When people vote exclusively on the issues that are important to them, without being influenced by name recognition, celebrity, or millions of dollars in advertising, Congressman Kucinich wins in a landslide,” his campaign said about the survey results.
Along with criticizing the vice president, Kucinich also chastised former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, accusing him of mishandling the information surrounding the friendly fire death of Army Ranger Pat Tillman, a former professional football player.
This week, Kucinich intends to campaign in California, starting in the Los Angeles area and making his way up to the San Francisco Bay area. He plans to campaign in New Hampshire the following week.
