Kucinich Touts Gay Marriage, Health Care Plan
Email This

Rep. Dennis Kucinich, R-Ohio, spent the last week campaigning on the West Coast, gaining attention particularly in Southern California.

On Aug. 9, he participated with five other Democratic presidential hopefuls in a forum sponsored by the Human Rights Council and Logo television network and moderated by prominent gay panelists, rock star Melissa Etheridge, journalist Jonathan Capehart and Human Rights Campaign president Joe Solmonese. The forum’s focus on gay issues allowed Kucinich to stand out — only he and former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel support gay marriage among the Democratic contenders.

“I hope you always run for president until you are elected,” Etheridge told Kucinich.

But early in the morning after the nationally televised forum, Kucinich’s campaign headquarters in Cleveland was vandalized.

“Kucinich spokesman Andy Juniewicz said an unknown object was thrown through a plate glass window sometime after 12:30 a.m., when campaign staffers closed the office,” the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported. He added that there was no connection to the representative’s remarks at the forum.

Later, Kucinich turned to health care — he was the keynote speaker at the Los Angeles Healthcare and Poverty Forum. He championed his universal health care plan and launched an effort to register 1 million uninsured adults in the area to vote, Los Angeles’ CBS 2 reported.

The Ohio representative also made his way up the coast, stopping in Santa Cruz to raise more than $60,000 for his campaign.

Further north, in San Francisco, Kucinich appeared on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos on Sunday to discuss his stance against nuclear proliferation and other details of the campaign.

Finally, a man with the integrity to understand that the world is one and must operate as such to survive.

There is no other man running who can even come close to Dennis Kucinich.

He is the only democratic candidate who voted against the war on Iraq, and who consistently opposed it.

He is the only candidate who sued the president to try to prevent him from going to war without declaration from Congress.

He is the only democratic candidate who will repeal NAFTA and withdraw from the WTO, replacing these agreements that have cost us so many hundreds of thousands of jobs with fair trade agreements that protect workers rights, human rights, and environmental quality principles.

He is the only candidate with a single payer plan that provides every man, woman, and child in the country with health coverage from whatever doctor they choose, through a tax on employers that is lower than what they now pay for insuring employees.

He is the only candidate who will make 20 percent of our energy use renewable rather than fossil fuels by 2010.

He is the only democratic candidate who voted against the patriot act, and who has introduced a bill to repeal major sections of it.

He is the only candidate who will redirect our priorities from war and tax cuts for the rich to peace and education, including free college tuition.

Hes the only candidate who is refusing contributions from big business, and whose vote wont be swayed by anything other than whats best for our country.
