Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., announced Wednesday on his campaign Web site that he planned to vote for an amendment to the Defense authorization bill introduced by Sen. Jim Webb, R-Va. The Webb measure would require that active duty troops have at least the same time at home as the length of their previous tour of duty overseas. Dodd had previously said he intends to offer his own amendment to the bill that would mandate a phased redeployment of U.S. troops to be concluded by April 30, 2008.
In the week ahead, Dodd is scheduled to attend the AARP/Iowa Public Television forum in Davenport, Iowa on Thursday. Judy Woodruff, NewsHour senior correspondent, will moderate the 90-minute discussion, which will focus on health care and financial security. Dodd also will participate in an NBC News debate in Hanover, N.H. on Sept. 26.
