Clinton Leads 3rd Quarter with $27 Million
Email This
A day after her top Democratic rivals released their fundraising numbers, Sen. Hillary Clinton announced she had beat them
both raising $27 million in the past three months — $5 million of it for the general election — from more than 100,000 new donors. Clinton’s new numbers lead 3rd quarter totals for both parties. This is the New York senator’s best quarter of the year and the first time she beat her closest competitor, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in the money race.
On Monday, Obama announced he raised $19 million for his primary campaign from over 93,000 new donors and former U.S. Sen. John Edwards trailed with $7 million, though his campaign expects a boost from public financing of around $10 million. The numbers from the rest of the Democratic field paled even to Obama and Edwards as the second-tier candidates struggle to break out in polls or gain new supporters. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson pulled in $5.2 million, Sen. Joe Biden raised less than $2 million, Sen. Chris Dodd rang in around $1.5 million.
