Kucinich Implores Congress to Impeach Cheney

Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, wrote a privileged resolution calling for the ousting of Vice President Dick Cheney, which will was introduced to the House Tuesday.
In his address to Congress, Kucinich cited Cheney’s policies in Iran, saying, “in the past three years, the Vice President has repeatedly threatened Iran,” and read international treaty laws against threatening another nation.
The resolution, which has 21 co-sponsors, all Democrats, suggests that Cheney has misled Congress about the U.S. relationship with Iran, which “warrants impeachment and trial and removal from office.” His campaign staff scheduled a nationwide conference call for Monday night to discuss the articles, but an overwhelming number of calls caused technical difficulties, and the call-in will be rescheduled in the next few days.
“The Kucinich campaign apologized for the snafu, explaining that staff had significantly underestimated the number of call-ins, and public interest in the issue exceeded technological capacity,” a press release on his web site said.
The congressman, who has been pushing for Cheney’s removal for the past several months, has also been getting serious about another popular topic: his oft-referred to wife.
In an interview on CBS’s Early Show, anchor Hannah Storm asked about the possibility of having a first lady with a tongue ring.
“As a professional … it’s important not to trivialize a woman who has worked on international humanitarian matters,” Kucinich said in Elizabeth’s defense. “Here’s a woman of great accomplishment with a Master’s degree in international conflict resolution, and I hope that you’re going to talk about more than a tongue stud.”
The congressman spent last weekend campaigning in Iowa and New Hampshire, appearing at New Hampshire’s National Forum on Equality, Opportunity and Access and Iowa State University’s Biobased Industry Outlook Conference.
This week, Kucinich scored a victory in expanding a health coverage tax credit.
“This tax credit was created to ensure that constituents who lose good manufacturing jobs would still be able to afford health insurance for themselves and their families,” Kucinich said in Philadelphia’s The Bulletin.
In another high point, the congressman was praised in a Salon.com opinion column entitled “Stop lying to yourself. You love Dennis Kucinich.”
“In a quest for an ‘electable,’ ‘not insane’ presidential candidate, you are willfully overlooking the candidate who actually comes closest to representing the things in which you really believe: justice and peace and the basic freedoms that should be afforded to every American, regardless of race, class, religion, gender, sexual orientation or galactic origin,” columnist Rebecca Traister wrote.
