Kucinich's Impeachment Drive Lives to Fight another Day -- at the Judiciary Committee
Email This

Despite the efforts of some of the top leaders of his party, Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, pushed for the ousting of Vice President Dick Cheney earlier this month, saying Cheney had mislead Congress on U.S. actions in Iran.

The congressman’s efforts were supported with a vote of 218 to 194, preventing Congressional leaders’ efforts to table it.

“Now the hope of the Democratic leadership is that this means Kucinich’s impeachment bill will continue to be safely bottled up in a subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee,” the Atlantic Free Press reported.

Sure enough, Kucinich’s resolution has yet to be addressed by the Judiciary Committee, but its support indicates that it may be brought to the committee’s attention earlier than many have expected.

On the campaign trail, the congressman spent time courting supporters in North Carolina, appearing with liberal activist and singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco at her concert in Asheville.

Besides befriending music stars, Kucinich has been getting attention for other unusual supporters.

“If Dennis keeps pulling down this kind of support, he’s going to be a force to be reckoned with… somewhere…,” columnist Doug Powers writes, referring to Kucinich’s alleged sighting of UFOs at Shirley McClaine’s house.

The congressman is currently preparing for Thursday night’s CNN Democratic Presidential Candidates Debate to be held in the early caucus state of Nevada.
