Paul's Record Fundraising Day Brings Media Attention
Email This
The presidential campaign for Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, gained a bit more of the limelight with the candidate’s appearance on CBS’ “Face the Nation” and featured articles by the Associated Press and Reuters.
“Something is going on,” Paul told the AP. He said the spontaneous growth in support for his campaign reflects a hunger for smaller government, greater adherence to the Constitution and a pro-American foreign policy, according to the news agency. Paul, who has gained a loyal group of supporters on the Internet, appears to have taken some successful steps in translating his online support into real dollars and exposure.
His one-day fundraising record of $4.3 million for the 2008 Republican primary has gained the candidate an increased presence in the latest Iowa and New Hampshire GOP primary polls.
While Paul has generally polled low in the GOP candidate field, he now ties John McCain for fifth place in a New York Times/CBS poll of Iowa Republican caucus voters and is ahead of former senator Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., who was once considered a top contender for the nomination, in New Hampshire.
