Paul Hauls in $6M, Setting Another 'Money Bomb' Record
Email This

Dec.16 marked another record-setting fundraising day for Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, as his supporters rallied on the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party to deliver more than $6 million to the candidate’s campaign coffers.

The flurry of online donations over the 24-hour period surpassed both Paul’s $4.3 million haul on Nov. 5, the most raised in a single day in the Republican primary, and the $5.7 million Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., raised the day after he secured the Democratic nomination for the 2004 presidential race, Politico.com reported.

The Paul campaign framed the fundraising as evidence of Paul’s widespread support, despite his low showing in national and state polls. “There is an unprecedented outpouring of grassroots support for Dr. Paul. The message of freedom is powerful and uniting people across America. And, Dr. Paul is the only candidate offering real solutions to the issues Americans care about, with the record to back it up,” Paul campaign chairman Kent Snyder said in a statement.

The “money bomb” online fundraising concept was developed by a Paul supporter who is not affiliated with the campaign: politics novice Trevor Lyman, a 37-year-old music producer. Lyman also spearheaded the Nov. 5 fundraising effort, according to Politico. The November fundraising push was set to coincide with Guy Fawkes Day, a British holiday that marked the attempted assassination of King James I in 1605.

According to the Paul campaign, more than 58,000 people gave money to the Texas Congressman’s campaign Sunday, including 24,940 first-time donors. Paul’s fourth-quarter total now exceeds $18 million, topping the campaign’s $12 million goal.

Campaign spokesman Jesse Benton told Politico that the money will be used to pay for new campaign employees and pay for ads in early primary voting states. The campaign plans to air a 30-minute TV special about Paul in Iowa this weekend.

Despite the deluge of money, the Paul campaign trails behind most of the Republican field in primary state voter polls. According to poll averages compiled by RealClearPolitics.com, Paul is polling in the single digits in all of the early primary states, although he is ahead of former Sen. Fred Thompson,, R-Tenn., in New Hampshire, with an average of 7 percent of those polled supporting Paul.

Ron Paul is going to raise more money from single, small donors than any other candidate, Republican or Democrate. His support comes from all parties - people that believe in America. The MSM is going to ACT surprised when he draws huge votes in the primaries because the polling methods are polling (when they mention Ron Paul at all) only diehard bushies that voted in 2004 in the primaries. Ron Paul is drawing support from people crossing voting lines - independants and democrates registering as republicans to vote for Ron Paul, plus all the republicans that didn't vote last time because of their disgust from big-government/neo-con conservatives. I can't wait. Go America. Go Ron Paul. Down with mainstream media, corrupt government, and money-grubbing anti-american corporations!

Every day i am seeing more people swinging over to Ron Paul. The Polls are going to see an upset and the results will show a flaw and that we can't listen to national polls. Get Ready to Get Rocked. Ron Paul is the Great Under Dog Story that takes back the country. WE THE PEOPLE will mean something again. I love it every time some one tells Ron that he can't win. It will make victory that much more sweeter. The media should realize every time they do that they are helping Ron pick up more supporters. So go ahead Media tell america he can't win despite all the money and supporters he has. Tell them even though this is the biggest impact from a grass roots movement that the national polls is what we have to look at. Hey i am not buying it i know Ron Paul is in the thick of things. So spin or tell the truth the end will show the truth anyhow. GO RON PAUL!!!

I am 69. I have watched in disgust most of my voting life as Corpgov candidates since Eisenhower warned of them have followed each other into the White House and exacerbated the Corp-Gov thievery.

For the first time since they shot George Wallace, I am excited about the possibility of a candidate taking the whip to the moneychangers.

I have maxed out on my money donations, and since then I support the blimp project, and have personally erected many ,many signs for Ron Paul in my area.

I have had my faith in people restored by Dr Paul. As has been said he cured my apathy too. May God continue to bless him and his supporters as we head for the Freedom God intended His people to have.

What are we to believe? Are the pundants all fools without the ability to conduct a reasonably accurate pole? Or are they trying to affect the outcome of the election by giving exposure to only the "selected" few and ignoring and debasing the rest? I think the latter is the case. You decide for yourself. The Ron Paul Revolution is sweeping the country and they can't stop it no matter how hard they try. Ron Paul deserves not just our money but also our fervent prayers. He stands to cast a blow to the Federal Reserve Bank (that is neither federal nor does it have any reserves) that will cost these private bankers billions. I don't think they will take it lightly. We need to pray for Ron Paul's protection from these corrupt men.
