Schwarzenegger: 'I'll Be Back'-ing McCain
Email This

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to endorse GOP candidate John McCain for president, the Associated Press reported.

“I am interested in a great future and I think Sen. McCain has proven over and over again that he is reaching across the aisle in order to get things done,” the governor and former action movie star said, appearing with McCain at an event in Los Angeles. “He’s a great American hero and an extraordinary leader.”

McCain, who narrowly edged out rival and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, for a victory Tuesday in Florida, has become the national front-runner and heads into Feb. 5’s Super Tuesday with 97 delegates to Romney’s 74.

A recent CNN poll shows McCain leading by 13 points in the Golden State, and McCain’s team is hoping the governor’s support will help to further secure his lead.

“Governor Schwarzenegger has been a fantastic leader for the state of California, and we are thrilled that he has thrown his support to McCain,” McCain communications director Jill Hazelbaker said in a statement, according to Bloomberg.

Schwartzenegger’s endorsement comes a day after former New York City mayor and GOP rival Rudy Giuliani also threw his support behind the Arizona senator. The two endorsements are expected to increase McCain’s popularity on both coasts.

“It’s not just a question of do you win,” Republican strategist Alex Vogel said to Bloomberg. “It’s a question of how big do you win. I can’t think of a better endorsement for McCain in California.”

Guess there's gonna be trouble in the Schwarzenegger/Kennedy bedroom tonight... or maybe Maria's just not that much of a family gal.
