Clinton Narrowly Takes New Mexico After Final Caucus Count
Email This

New York Sen. Hillary Clinton was announced the winner of New Mexico’s Feb. 5 Democratic caucuses on Thursday after nine days of statewide counting.

“The final statewide count gave her a 1,709-vote edge over rival Sen.
Barack Obama, 73,105 or 48.8 percent of the total vote to 71,396 or 47.6 percent,” the Associated Press reported.

The state’s delegates were split with 14 going to Clinton and 12 to Obama, bringing the national delegate total to 1,276 for Obama and 1,220 for Clinton as of Thursday, according to the AP’s tally.

The state’s 17,276 provisional ballots were partially to blame for the delay in caucus results. These were cast by “voters who showed up at the wrong polling station, or who forgot to mail their absentee ballots, or for whom regular ballots ran out,” according to the Washington Post. “Starting last Thursday, those ballots had to be hand counted under the supervision of representatives from both campaigns.”

Carlos Monje Jr., Obama’s state director, said Thursday there were “troubling aspects” of the caucus, including “incredibly long lines that kept people from voting,” the AP reported. “We’re going to continue to work with the New Mexico Democratic state party to make sure the next election goes more smoothly.”

After final counting, Clinton was announced to have won the popular vote in 27 of the state’s 33 counties, according to the New York Times. Before provisional ballots were counted, she led the Illinois senator by a 1,123-vote margin.

“I am so proud to have earned the support of New Mexicans from across the state,” Clinton said in a news release. “From strengthening the economy to providing health care for every American to jumpstarting a clean energy future, New Mexicans want real solutions to our nation’s challenges.”

If Hillary wants to count her White House years as a part of her "experience," then she needs to take responsibility for why we don't already HAVE "Universal Health Care!" If EIGHT years weren't enough, why would anyone want to give her the chance to fail again?

I voted for Bill Clinton both times and the promises are the same now as they were then. Can we really afford to take a chance on someone who has a PROVEN record of failure in working cooperatively with the Republicans. After all she's the one who said, "The Rebublicans never had a good idea." I wouldn't want to cooperate with someone who said that about me...would you?

Hillary Clinton tried to work out a healthcare plan while Bill was in office, and it took a tremendous amount of time and energy, that nobody else was willing to do. Let's remember that and move forward.

Who ever loves freedom and justice and read the constitution of America in conjunction with the American Declaration of Independence will fall in love with America.

But is America today living upto that vision?

To my democrat American friends I will say Hold not pride because of your looks, Look at America and its unparallel constitution and Ideals so that you may see beyond a blackman called Obama and a whitewoman called Clinton only then will your vote deliver to America the dictate of the vision of your fore parents.

The world is watching and waiting for the America where its citizens once more will travel overseas and have no reason to hide their identity, where its leaders will not need to travel overseas unannouce in bunkers. Do not sell your conscience vote what you believe. Your true vote will lead and determine the future of the world's America. God Bless America . Emmanuel Tam. Ezekiel-Hart
