Clinton Wins Massachusetts; Obama Scores Delaware, Alabama Wins

Sen. Hillary Clinton celebrated a victory in Massachusetts’ tight Democratic race, as rival Sen. Barack Obama took home a southern state win with Alabama, major networks are projecting.
“Despite the fact that Obama visited Massachusetts just last night, Hillary Clinton won the state,” a Clinton news release stated released within moments of the projected call. “This is a strong victory and shows that Hillary Clinton has strength in places where Barack Obama was expected to win.”
“The New York senator relied on rank-and-file lawmakers, who cranked up their get-out-the-vote efforts on Super Tuesday to offset Obama’s headline-grabbing endorsements,” the Associated Press reported. Delaware, which only has 15 delegates, may be regarded as an unimportant state, but Obama made an effort to campaign there in days leading up to Tuesday’s vote.
“Obama is the only presidential candidate to visit Delaware in 2008,” Delaware Online reported. Clinton sent daughter Chelsea to the state to campaign on behalf of her mother.
Obama also scored another southern win to follow up on an early victory in Georgia, being projected the winner in the Alabama primary.
“In Alabama and Georgia, African-American voters who have a favorable opinion of Bill Clinton still went for Obama,” Stu Rothenberg of the Rothenberg Political report said on the NewsHour.
The two Democratic contenders are still in tight races in Northeastern states of Connecticut and New Jersey and Midwestern Missouri.
