Huckabee Strong in South, Picks up Key Wins
Email This
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee won the GOP primaries in Alabama and his home state of Arkansas, according to the Associated Press. Many Alabama voters who chose with Huckabee said they were influenced by his background as a Baptist minister, the AP reported.
“My main issue was where they stand on the Lord and conservative versus liberal. I’m conservative,” said Jeff McFarland, a 42-year-old Southern Baptist Missionary from Montgomery, told the AP. The calls are based on exit polls and early returns. In Georgia, with 24 percent of precincts reporting, Huckabee is leading with 35 percent of the vote, compared to Arizona Sen. John McCain’s 32 percent and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s 29 percent.
