Mitt Romney Vows to Stay in the Race Despite Losses
Email This
After a string of disappointing finishes in the Northeast and South, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney took the stage in Boston to say that he plans to stay in the GOP race.
“The one thing that’s clear is that this campaign is going on,” he told cheering supporters. “I think there’s some people who thought it would be done tonight, but it’s not going to be done tonight…we’re going to go all the way to the convention and w going to win this thing.” But Romney faces an uphill battle. He lost a swath of states in the Northeast Tuesday, including delegate-rich New York, to Arizona Sen. John McCain, and four key southern states — Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and West Virginia — to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
In his speech, Romney emphasized that he had won the states he has lived in — Michigan, Massachusetts and Utah — and that the results from big western states, including California, have yet to come in.
