CBS News anchor Katie Couric will get her chance to grill Democratic candidates Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama on pressing issues for North Carolinians in an April 27 debate ahead of the Tar Heel State’s May 6 primary.
The pair will also debate on April 16, ahead of Pennsylvania’s April 22 vote. Senator Obama agreed to both debates last month, while Clinton’s confirmation on the North Carolina debate has been delayed. The New York senator did not agree to the original debate schedule on April 19, “noting that night is the beginning of the Passover observance among Jewish people,” WRAL in North Carolina reported.
Both candidates have made campaign stops throughout North Carolina, and the Clinton campaign recently ramped up their marketing in the state with the launch of www.NCAskMe.com, an online forum where readers can make comments and ask her questions, which she will answer in a weekly video. The launch of the Web site coincided with the release of Clinton’s first television ad in North Carolina.
The North Carolina debate will be the 22nd debate of the 2008 primary season for both Democrats.
