Obama Projected to Seize North Carolina Victory
Email This
Democratic voters in North Carolina, the largest prize of the remaining primary voting calendar, backed Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for the presidential nomination Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.

With record voter turnout across the state, Obama was expected to easily defeat rival Democrat Sen. Hillary Clinton after he won in neighboring South Carolina and Virginia.
Speaking to reporters earlier in the day, Obama was confident. “I feel good,” he said, according to the Associated Press. “I think we’ve campaigned hard. I think it’s going to be close. I’m seeing a lot of enthusiasm.” Obama was boosted by new voters and blacks in the North Carolina contest. “About 91 percent of African American voters in N.C. supported Obama,” ABC News reported. “The Illinois senator also benefited from a surge of new voters; 18 percent in North Carolina said it was their first time voting in a primary, and they favored him by a vast 68-26 percent.”
Despite her appeal among working-class voters, Clinton was unable to close in on Obama’s lead in the state, where many voters matched Obama’s ideal Demographics. Clinton was able to increase her appeal in the state drastically in the weeks since the Pennsylvania primary, and Monday the Clinton campaign was confident in her chances.
With the Democratic race remaining relatively tight, the North Carolina win will help boost Obama’s national strength and his appeal to super delegates, who will likely be tasked with casting the deciding votes once the primary voting season ends on June 3.

Thanks, PBS News, for presenting clear, hoest coverage of Sen. Obama's win in North Carolina. I just visited the websites of other news networks and found that each led their coverage of tonight's elections with "victory" comments from Sen. Clinton and "honorable mentions" of Sen. Obama's North Carolina win. I also thank PBS News for providing expert analysis of the effect of voter turnout on his win and the role of super delegates in the upcoming primaries.
It is amazing to me how bais the media has been against Senator Clinton. The lady just can't win! She wins Penn State BIG! She gets no credit, then Senator Obama wins N. C., which was already assumed,..his victory negates her Penn State victory in the press. For some strange reason the dye is set to PUT Senator Obama in the White House. Time Magazine ran a bias aritcle praising Senator O's mother, and now we see tonight Senator Clinton wins Indianna and the new media deminishes her accompliment there. The lady can't win with the organized press who are hell bent on putting Senator O int he White House. A winning tickent is Clinton and Obama. Clinton President and Obama as Vice President. Let's give the lady some credit. I would be happy to see Obama as President, but I would be happier to see Clinton as President, for one reason. We need EXPERIENCE in the White House after the diasterous 8 years of Geo. Bush!
