Scenes from a Democratic Presidential Showdown
Email This

WASHINGTON | With questionable fashion choices and strong opinions, politics unfailingly makes for fantastic people watching and even better eavesdropping.
Saturday’s Democratic National Committee Rules and Bylaws Committee was no exception.
The delegate hearing in Washington, D.C., led to some vaguely surreal scenes such as a guy gussied up in Uncle Sam garb tipping his hat (but not wagging his finger) toward a passing bridal party. Outside the hotel, an Italian journalist laughed while purchasing a Hillary-in-the-box from a street vendor.
The DNC’s meeting was on everyone’s lips, especially of other Marriott guests who didn’t realize the Democrats’ weighty get-together was taking place down the hall from their conventions and wedding receptions.
The scene was so discombobulating that it led to some extremely rare men’s room banter between strangers.
Guy 1: “We got in last night and were like: ‘What is going on?’ It’s crazy.”
Guy 2: “Yeah. They’re not going to do anything, right? It’s too late for her.”
Another fellow in a men’s room stall answered his ringing phone with a nonchalant tone.
Stall guy: “Hello? Yeah, I’m fine. I’m at the convention. You know the Democrats’ Michigan and Florida thing? Guess where it’s going on? Yeah, same hotel as the conference. There’s a protest outside and CNN’s here.”

I am from Michigan. Our primary was chaotic and filled with confusion. I think it was the night before the primary we were told Obama and Edwards would not be on the ballot, and if the candidate was not on the ballot we should vote for "uncommitted". When I got to the polling station, I learned we could not even write in a candidate- these ballots would be thrown out. I was VERY upset. I decided that to turn my vote over to an unknown person to vote as that person thought I should vote did not please me. I voted for Kucinich as he was the only Democrat to campaign in the state and was anti-war. Others I talked to stayed home on election day or crossed over to vote in the Republican election.
Every time I hear Clinton say she "won" that flawed election my rage re-surfaces. I would rather see all our votes thrown out since we cannot get a fair election.

Looks like Hillary's supporters behave as appallingly as she does!
While a very messy and contentious meeting, the outcome avoided what would have amounted to a total meltdown of the Democratic Party. Unfortunately, supporters of Clinton have apparently received her endorsement for acting like horses behinds on national TV. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
What's happened to the Great American Dream of 0ne man(woman) one vote?
