DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE
Chris Gregoire
Incumbent
Chris Gregoire

Democrat Chris Gregoire is completing her first term as governor after winning the closest race in Washington history in 2004. Gregoire served three terms as the state's first female attorney general and earned attention in 1998 for negotiating a 46-state $206 billion settlement with the tobacco industry. Gregoire was raised just south of Seattle and has a law degree from the Gonzaga University.

REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE
Dino Rossi
Former State Senator
Dino Rossi

After falling just short in 2004, Republican Dino Rossi is making his second attempt for the Washington governor's office. In 1992, he lost a bid for state senate, but won a seat in 1997 and served until 2003, chairing the state's influential Ways and Means Committee. Rossi began a career in commercial real estate when he was 25 and is still involved in the business.
