Sen. Barack Obama has settled on his vice-presidential running mate, according to nearly every media source, and could make the announcement as early as Wednesday morning.

With the Democratic Convention just days away in Denver, speculation on who will join Obama on the stage one week from Wednesday has sent many news organizations scrambling to come up with lists of likely picks.
The shortlist includes Delaware Sen. Joe Biden (a front-runner, according to some), Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh and Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine. But many others have been mentioned in the run-up to the announcement: New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, Rhode Island Rep. Jack Reed, Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd, Virginia Sen. Jim Webb, former rival Sen. Hillary Clinton, former Sen. Sam Nunn and even retired Gen. Wesley Clark.
Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee, will first alert his supporters through a text message. (Obama’s Web site invites visitors to “Be the First to Know.”)
