Presidential Race

Native American Students Concerned over Federal Education Funding

By Rhonda LeValdo on August 14, 2008
As minority communities weigh which presidential candidate would best represent them on key issues, some Native Americans are focused on whether the next president will continue to fund tribal schools that form the bedrock of their education. Rhonda LeValdo reports from Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kan. on how federal funding impacts the presidential race for many students on campus.

Lemuel Bar-Jona : Education is the right of every person that resides within this nation. For Native American's the U.S. and whatever governance that is in place should feel an almost obligatory mission to honor those treaties formualted by the U.S. If we as Americans can not take care and provide the needs for those persons that reside within this country how can be ever be viewed as leaders in the international sense. The only way to lead is from the front and regardless of whatever additional obligations the U.S. governance takes on we must Must remember those obligations made to American citizens. Moreover, how can any American hope to pursue the American Experience if they are not allowed to participate within and lead a normal existance. We should be ashamed of ourselves for leaving this kids our furture without a means by which to aspire and matricluate through the higher educational system.
