Sen. John McCain — as expected — is projected to win Louisiana, Kansas and North Dakota, according to the Associated Press.
Sen. Barack Obama currently leads in electoral votes with 175 of the 270 needed to win the presidency. McCain had 61.
Obama’s states now include Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Rhode Island, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland and New Jersey, as well as Washington, D.C.
McCain has won Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Alabama, South Carolina and North Dakota.
The battlegrounds states of Florida, Indiana, Ohio, Virginia and Colorado are still up for grabs.
“The fact that Virginia, Indiana and North Carolina are too close to call — that tells you that the Democrats, both presidential and Congressional, are poaching on traditionally Republican terrain,” historian Richard Norton Smith said Tuesday night on the NewsHour.
