Students at Drexel University in Philadelphia got to vote in one of their dormitories this Election Day, which helped bring out their numbers and got some of them to vote for the first time, said WHYY political reporter Susan Phillips.
Most of the students Phillips spoke with cast their ballots for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., whose campaign had a major presence on campus, handing out umbrellas and rain ponchos.
One of the big questions in the election was whether the students would come out to vote, Phillips added, and “I talked to people who were not just freshmen, but also sophomores, juniors and seniors who were voting for the first time.”
