Reporter's Notebook: In Florida, Gay Marriage Amendment and Some Technical Glitches

By Larisa Epatko on November 4, 2008

Florida is one of three states considering a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would define marriage as between a man and a woman. “Morning Edition” host and reporter David Pitman of WMFE-Orlando describes the rift between voters on the issue, and how pollsters say the undecided contingent might carry the amendment to approval.

At a couple of polling sites, voting machines became jammed after voters tried to insert their completed ballots, causing some delays, said Pitman. And those who didn’t take advantage of early voting, explained why:

“One lady told me that she drove by her early polling site … and it was a mad house every single day,” he reported.
