NewsHour senior correspondent Ray Suarez reports from Republican candidate Sen. John McCain’s home state of Arizona, where he found some voters experiencing long lines and other polling places that seemed nearly empty.
“One of the biggest changes about Election Day in my years of covering politics is how Election Day has become really the last day of the campaign,” Suarez said. “It didn’t use to be that way.”
“This used to be a day when campaigns would gather, start to compare notes, make phone calls of thanks to steady supporters…but now in the age of polling…the campaign really continues up until the polling places close on Election Day, and we’ll see that in full force this time around.”
