Reporter's Notebook: Ray Suarez and Judy Woodruff Wrap Up Election Night

By Lee Banville on November 5, 2008

The campaigns of Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain have come to a close and Obama has made history, becoming the first African American president-elect.

As the crowds at both the Democratic and Republican rallies disperse, Lee Banville, editor of the Online NewsHour, spoke to senior NewsHour correspondents Ray Suarez, who is in Arizona, and Judy Woodruff, in Chicago, to get their final thoughts on the end to almost two years of election coverage and the mood in their respective regions.

Roxanne Walters : Parts of President-elect Obama's speech seem familiar to the words of the song, Woyaya (Osibisa, 1971): "We are going, heaven knows where we are going, we'll know we're there. We will get there, heaven knows how we will get there, we'll know we're there. It will be hard, we know, and the road will be muddy and rough, but we'll get there, heaven knows how we will get there, we know we will. Woyaya, Woyaya, Woyaya, Woyaya."
