Former President Bill Clinton stumped for Democratic Senate candidate Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire Sunday, his first time in the state since he campaigned for his wife in the January primaries. Clinton reflected Democrats' confidence about the outcome of the presidential election, urging Obama voters to also back Shaheen.

New Hampshire's Republican Sen. John Sununu accused his Democratic challenger, former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen, of shifting with the "political winds" during their first televised debate Tuesday night, while Shaheen hammered Sununu for voting with President Bush 90 percent of the time.

Jeanne Shaheen

Former three-term Democratic governor Jeanne Shaheen is again aiming for a Senate seat, after narrowly losing to incumbent Republican John Sununu in 2002. Shaheen, was governor of New Hampshire from 1997 to 2003 -- the first woman to hold that office. Since then, she has run the Harvard's Institute of Politics and served as a national chairperson for John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign.

First-term GOP Sen. John Sununu is expected to face a tough race for re-election to his Senate seat from New Hampshire as voters in the state have started to increasingly lean Democratic. At 43, he is the youngest member of the U.S. Senate and is the son of John H. Sununu, a former governor of New Hampshire and President George H.W. Bush's chief of staff.
