DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE
Tom Udall
U.S. House Representative
Tom Udall

Rep. Tom Udall served as chief counsel for the New Mexico Health and Environment Department and as the state's attorney general after making two unsuccessful runs for Congress in the 1980s.

Following in the footsteps of other politicians in his family, including his father, Udall was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998 and has since been an advocate for environmental protection and a vocal opponent of the war in Iraq. Udall's cousin, Mark Udall, is running for a U.S. Senate seat in Colorado.

REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE
Steve Pearce
U.S. House Representative
Steve Pearce

Rep. Steve Pearce's southern district of New Mexico covers the state's entire 180-mile border with Mexico. Pearce, a former Air Force pilot, has long been a staunch advocate of strengthening border security.

Pearce served as part of a delegation to Iraq in September 2007. He serves on the House Committee on Natural Resources as well as the Financial Services Committee.
