This was made during the 1961 Freedom Ride from Montgomery, AL to Jackson, MS. A previous Freedom Ride was burned in Anniston, AL and the riders were beaten. That time there were no press and no guards. This time the Alabama National Guard was called out and they were given live rounds and they had fixed bayonets.
