This is column of Selma marchers with National Guard and State Police present. This was Route 80, which is now called Freedom Road. It was so amazing that you had these beautiful rolling hills that were completely rural and were treacherous at the same time. The Blackman Family, seen later in the essay, lives off Freedom Road.
