And as far as the prisoners go at Guantanamo, some are innocent, and some are'nt, but they will be treated the same as any other prisoner from any other detention facility anywhere in the world. They will be questioned, starved, treated badly, threatened, and broken down. For as long as there are greedy, evil dictators in power, we will forever have torture and degredation as a form of intelligence gathering. So in other words get friggen used to it!!!!!! Poster: amtak Comment: As usual with whistleblowers, Lt. Cdr. Swift was punished for his excellent victory by being passed over twice for promotion, necessitating his retirement. In this instance Swift was fortunate to have landed a civilian job he really likes; but other government whistleblowers find their careers destroyed instead. Poster: Lisa Smith Comment: Holding detainees in Guantanomo or in any other prison outside of the country makes a mockery of our laws and undermines the country's proclaimed sense of humanity or credibility. It is also giving the green light to others who abuse their sense of power or authority. Attention to this matter is way past due and the harm increases the longer the debate overides decisive action to close them all. Poster: Charles Kane Jr. Comment: The terrorists have always ignored any form of decency for their captives including beheading. All the news I have received shows me our country is treating terrorists humanely bending over backwards giving them concessions regarding their religion which they do not give to their cptives. Poster: Pauline Hayes Comment: I just finished watching you show about detainees at Guantanamo Bay. The actions of Commander Charles Swift show me what America is supposed to be. If we do not act differently from those we are trying to defeat, then we are those we are trying to defeat. Commander Swift, who is now in the private sector, has shown all of us what must be done to defeat terrorists and those trying to usurp personnal freedom in this country - stand up and say no. Otherwise, those prisoners in a foreign jail without access to the outside world may be us someday. Poster: Mike Comment: I strongly agree with Lieutenant Commander Charles Swift and expect Congress to take action! Poster: Ed Comment: Now: just watched your piece on Charles Swift. It's refreshing to see someone on the inside who is standing up to Bush's illegal actions. Kudos to Swift. Kudos to you for airing the story. Poster: Richard Berghofer Comment: Guantanamo should be closed, the prisoners let go, the government officals who had anything to do with it and the guards and prisoners at Guantanmo should be jailed sued for crime against humanity. Poster: Jason Wolfe Comment: Charles Swift inspired me to apply for JAG, once I get my law degree that is. Poster: NancyB Comment: I believe in the rule of law. I do not believe that making exceptions to that is fruitful for any civilization. The rule of law is based upon reason and precedent. No person is above or below that mark. Unfortunately the present policy of the US is against this concept, much to the determinant of the entire country. To me Guantanamo represents a moral blow to US. I was always proud of the principles this country stood for. I will never believe freedom must be sacrificed for the new war. Only demogaugs depend upon such tactics. |
