State-by-State: Abortion Laws Around the Country

NOTE: An updated version of this resource map was created to accompany NOW's July 20, 2007 episode "Post-Abortion Politics"

South Dakota’s abortion law is the most restrictive one adopted by any state since Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973. State proposals to ban abortions are before legislators in a number of states including Alabama, Kentucky and Ohio.

Laws differ from state-to-state on issues such as parental consent for minors, gestation limits and public funding for abortions.

The map below contains state women's health agencies where you can find up-to-date information on local programs as well as links to facts about abortion by state.
