Anna Deavere Smith in Performance

Anna Deavere Smith is probably best known for her award-winning one-woman shows, inspired by personalities she met during her research.

Last year, Smith took to the stage at the TIME Global Health Summit, an event that brought together notable personalities, experts, and politicians, including President Bill Clinton and Bill Gates, to address world health issues.

At the summit, Smith portrayed a variety of characters, including a traditional healer from Uganda, the head of an HIV/AIDS orphanage in South Africa, and Cornell West.

View the video and see why The New York Times calls Smith the "ultimate impressionist."
