The Sustainable Endowments Institute graded 100 colleges on environmental sustainability by looking at campus "greening" practices and endowment policies. More than half the schools were marked with a "C" overall, while four schools received an "A-," the highest grade awarded. The Massachusetts-based institute considered a number of factors, such as sustainability programs related to food and recycling, "green" buildings, climate change, and energy; and a number of measures related to endowments.
