The Sustainable Endowments Institute graded 200 colleges on environmental sustainability by looking at campus "greening" practices and endowment policies. The institute considered sustainability programs related to food and recycling, "green" buildings, climate change, and energy.

Now in its second year, the College Sustainability Report Card doubled the number of schools included in the first Report Card and provided insights into recent "greening" trends on college campuses. More than half the schools were marked with a "C" or below overall, while six schools received an "A-," the highest grade awarded. While a couple of schools received "F" grades, two out of three schools improved their overall grade from the year before.
