Deckhand - Kiribati Leg
Jacob graduated from the Bates College with a B.A. in Biology in 2000. He worked as deckhand aboard Odyssey on the Kiribati leg, from Christmas Island to Tarawa Island. In undergraduate school Jacob attended the Sea Education Association in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, studying oceanography, marine biology, nautical science, and maritime studies. He has spent two summers in Galapagos and Ecuador traveling with and teaching biology, geology and sailing to high school students. For the past nine months Jacob was working in a laboratory at Harvard studying the evolution of malaria. In the fall 2002, he will start a PhD program at Harvard Medical School.
