Jennifer Palmer graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz with a bachelor's degree in Biology. She has participated in cetacean field research in the St. Lawrence Seaway, southeast Alaska, Sea of Cortez, and along the coast of California.

Jen also spent two and a half years at Long Marine Lab training seals and sea lions and researching their cognition and sensory systems.

In addition to her marine mammal studies, Jen has worked as a marine science educator for organizations such as Monterey Bay Aquarium, Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, and the Ocean Institute.
