Julie is a marine ecologist, with research interests on the population dynamics of fishes, coral reef ecology and the conservation of marine resources. She received her B.Sc. (ecology major) from Griffith University, Brisbane, and her M.Sc. from James Cook University, Townsville, for research on the early life history of coral reef fishes.
Julie has conducted a number of research projects, undertaken in a variety of different habits, which include topics on reef ecology, water quality, fisheries and conservation. This work has taken her to the reefs and inshore regions of northern Australia, the fiords of New Zealand and the oceanic trenches off Western Australia. Previous cetacean work has involved acoustic and behavioural observations of humpback whales in Western Australia and Queensland with Curtin University and the Centre for Whale Research.
