The Future of Fair Treatment for Native People

The future of human rights and fair treatment for native people in the modern world is still in question. For example, in September 2000 the world saw 500 Mayan villagers protesting against alleged police abuses and mistreatment of Mayan Indians in Guatemala. These continuing conflicts between the Mayan Indians and police are yet another illustration of the problematic legacy of the conquistadors.
