Another Piece of Amelia's Airplane

August 25, 2009 6:14 PM |

I thoroughly enjoyed your story on Amelia Earhart's plane. I thought you should know that the International Women's Air & Space Museum in Cleveland, Ohio has part of the landing gear from the plane as well.

The story is that the landing gear was sent to Cleveland Pneumatic Tool after the crash in March of 1937 to help determine a cause for the crash. It is unclear what the company determined from the part but it was eventually given to a gentleman who worked at the company. He fashioned it into bookends! The artifact was donated to us just this year by the son of the gentleman who was given the piece.
