GOERING GUN

AIRED: Season 3, Episode 8; Season 4, Episode 6
THE DETECTIVE: Wes Cowan
THE PLACE: Lewiston, New York

THE CASE:

In the dying days of the Third Reich, Hermann Goering, the former head of the mighty German Luftwaffe, was holed up in his castle in the German countryside, addicted to opium and terrified of capture by the advancing Allies.

A notorious art collector, Goering possessed thousands of artifacts, many of which were looted at the time of his arrest in 1945.

A Lewiston, New York, man believes his shotgun could be one of those items.

A signed affidavit from an American soldier says that he removed the gun from Goering's castle "from the wall over the living room fireplace" during the arrest.

History Detectives travels to Washington, D.C. and New York City to investigate this possible link to Hitler's once-feared right hand man.
