mckinley casket flag
REPEATED: Season 5, Episode 11
AIRED: Season 4, Episode 1
THE DETECTIVE: Wes Cowan
THE PLACE: Battleground, Washington
THE CASE:
A Battle Ground, WA man has a flag which he claims once draped the casket of U.S. President William McKinley.
The 25th President was assassinated in 1901 at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, NY, by anarchist Leon Czolgosz.
Could this 45-starred flag really have been given to our contributor’s great grandfather, Charles Kennedy? Kennedy was a sharpshooter and a military man, so why didn’t he jump in and save the president’s life?
History Detectives travels to Cincinnati and Canton, Ohio to investigate McKinley’s legacy through the eyes of his supporters and his detractors.
