EXPANSION 1801 - 1861
These stories relate to the period spanning the first half of the 19th century. This era included United States territorial expansion, relations with external powers and Native Americans, the Industrial Revolution, increasing immigration, the rapid expansion of slavery, and the westward movement that changed the lives of Americans and led toward regional tensions. It also includes the extension, restriction, and reorganization of political democracy after 1800.
