Examine the packaging of thousands of foodstuffs, and you’ll find more than just fat and carb counts; you’ll also be able to tell if a product is kosher. There are almost 700 agencies worldwide that certify kosher goods, and each agency has its own distinctive symbol, called a hechsher, that indicates the manufacturer has contracted to ensure the ingredients and food preparation process are kosher.
