Time Team America

Site Update: June '09

So what's next for the site at Fort Raleigh? Time Team America contributed to season four of a five-year research plan. The First Colony foundation will continue to work on two fronts: testing and surveying the areas within the park and testing some areas beyond the park that show some promise. The work in Hariot Woods will continue. The postholes found during the Time Team dig are very promising yet it is too soon to be certain of the function or age of these features.

There is also a great deal of geophysics to do within the area of the park. This is a non-destructive way to get an idea where to focus future efforts. They also plan to do some testing around the previously excavated earthworks. When J.C. Harrington conducted those digs in the 1950's, Historical Archaeology was still in its early years. There is a lot more information available to archaeologists today that could provide new insights into this part of the site.
