Site Update: June '09

Like several of projects we worked on during this first season, at the Topper site, Time Team America joined an ongoing research program. Dr. Goodyear and his team of archaeologists and volunteers have been excavating at Topper since the late 1990s.

In early May of 2009, Dr. Goodyear and his team returned to the site for four more weeks of digging and investigation. According to the excavation's web site, the team planned to continued work on the Clovis levels on the hillside, resume the search for pre-Clovis evidence on the Pleistocene terrace where the 50,000 year old dates came from and begin a dredging project at the nearby Big Pines site. Due to the age of the material being excavated and the discussion it has generated it is likely that Topper will remain in the news for some time to come.
