printable pieces to make game boards and game cards (part one | part two (PDFs))
pennies, candies or snacks (such as Gold Fish crackers) to be used as game pieces - six per player
scissors
How to Prepare:
Print one copy of Hundley's head and tail on regular paper. Arrange on the floor in front of players.
Print and cut out all 12 Bingo game boards. Give one to each player.
Print and cut out all eight caller cards. Shuffle and arrange in a deck.
Distribute six game pieces (pennies, candies or snacks) to each player.
How to Play:
Object of the game: Hundley is hungry. Whoever wins Bingo gets to "feed" Hundley with his/her food-filled Bingo game board.
Once each player has his/her game board and pieces, demonstrate how the game is played, telling players to shout "Bingo!" as soon as they have covered one row with game pieces. Use a game board and three game pieces to demonstrate what this would look like.
The caller draws from the deck of cards and calls out the name of the object on the card. For example, if the caller says "lemon" then all players with lemons on their Bingo boards must cover up every lemon. Players use their game pieces to cover the objects that have been called out.
The caller should continue to draw from the deck and call out objects until a player yells, "Bingo!"
After the winning game board is confirmed, the winner gets to "feed" Hundley by placing his/her card between Hundley's head and tail. The winner must also count how many of each item Hundley has eaten.
Repeat steps 1-5 as many times as you would like. At the game's conclusion encourage all players to lay their game boards down, one next to the other, filling up Hundley's tummy and making an ever-expanding Hundley. For some extra fun and amusement, make a banner from all the printable pieces as they appear laid out on the floor. Just tape them together and hang your ever-expanding Hundley on the wall. It makes a terrific birthday party souvenir!
Note: This Bingo game offers many opportunities to quiz children in their comprehension of numbers and counting. Throughout the game ask players these questions:
How many squares are on your Bingo cards?
Who has (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) square(s) covered on their game cards? Raise your hands.
Who still has uncovered squares? How many (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)? Raise your hands.
Who is just (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) square(s) away from Bingo?
To the winner: How many lemons did you feed Hundley? Beach balls? Meatballs? Sandwiches? Donuts?
For a final challenge, once all players have lined up their boards in Hundley's tummy, ask them which items Hundley has eaten the most and least.
