Teletubby Birthday Cake

the Cake

What You'll Need:

  • 1 10-inch springform cake layer already baked
  • 4 cups white frosting
  • Food coloring
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Toothpicks
  • Bbrown and red fruit leather
  • Licorice twizzlers (the same color as your frosting will be)
  • Wax paper to make the face template
  • Junior Mints
  • Lightweight white cardstock

How to Make It:

  1. Divide the frosting 3 cups into a bowl and 1 cup in another bowl.
  2. Add 12-15 drops of food coloring (of your choice) to the 3 cups of frosting to use for your color of Teletubby.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon cocoa to the 1 cup of frosting to use for the face
  4. On the cake layer, cut off 1-inch crescent shapes from the sides. Flip these around and cut shorter if you wish, to make the ears. You can make them stay with toothpicks.
  5. Cut the wax paper to the oval shape we have given for the face.
  6. Lay the face template on the center of the cake layer and then spread the rest of the cake with the colored frosting.
  7. Remove the wax paper and spread the face color in the oval; building up the nose to a point. Make the icing thick enough to make indentations for the eyes.
  8. From our template, cut out 2 shapes for the whites of the eyes. Place those on the face and then add the brown fruit leather cut outs. Use a Junior Mint in the center of the brown color to make the eye pupil.
  9. Cut a smile shape from the red fruit leather and put it on Teletubby for the mouth.
  10. Shape a licorice twizzler to make the antennae for your Teletubby. You can poke it into the top of the cake. For Po, you need to hook the two ends together with a toothpick like we did.
  11. Have fun and enjoy your very own Teletubby!
