Curious George

Understand what a plan is and how to use it.

  • On a Hike (PDF)
  • Pen/pencil
  • Pad of paper
  • Construction paper

  1. Print out the On a Hike (PDF).
  2. Tell your child to look at the On a Hike print-out.
  3. Point out the compass on the left.
  4. Write the word "compass" on a piece of paper and say it out loud. Tell her that a compass is a tool that tells directions on a map. Explain the directions the compass shows are north, south, east, and west.
  5. Tell her to use the compass to answer the questions (answers: 1. north; 2. east)

Take It Further

Help your child understand how to follow steps and directions by building a maze in a room. Arrange tables and chairs throughout the room to create a path that she has to go through. Using construction paper, create road signs that direct your child to turn left or right and go over or under tables and chairs.
