Dinosaur Discoveries

About the PBS KIDS Site

The Field Guide

The Field Guide is a visual/audio glossary of dinosaurs. It’s modeled after a kid’s “sound book” with pressable sound effects. It teaches the correct pronunciation of each dinosaur’s name, what it ate, what time period it lived in, how big it is, and several interesting facts about each. Kids can print collectible trading cards to share their dinosaur knowledge with friends! Play now!

Pteranodon Fishing

Like the episode “Tiny Loves Fish,” Tiny and Buddy work together to catch fish. But here, they’re using Mr. Pteranodon’s method – spot, dive, and scoop! Buddy uses his sharp eyes to spot fish from above, and Tiny scoops them up with her beak. This game demonstrates the anatomy of Pteranodon fishing and the value of teamwork. Play now!

Hungry Hungry Herbivore

It’s Tank’s favorite time of day — lunchtime! The player steers Tank the Triceratops towards delicious shrubs. At the same time, the player has to steer clear of oncoming Triceratops. On occasion a predator appears. This prompts Tank’s mom to call him to the herd. The screen will switch views, and the player must lead Tank toward the herd safely. Play now!

How Big Are You?

Estimate the length of various dinosaurs using modern animals as non-standard units of measurement! In this game the child learns that dinosaurs were different sizes and had different names, that large objects can be measured with non-standard objects, that a hypothesis can be tested by measuring, and that measuring with non-standard objects requires counting. Play now!

Dino Tracks

Learn about patterns while making tracks in the mud with Buddy, Tiny and Tank! In this game, the player looks at the character’s tracks and decides whose tracks complete the pattern. Play freeplay mode and create your own tracks by clicking on the characters. When you are done, print the tracks you made! Play now!

Flying with Buddy

Help Buddy, Tiny and Don collect shells for Don’s collection and get them back to the nest before lunchtime. Use the mouse to make the characters move up and down to avoid obstacles and collect shells. At the end, count how many shells you collected! Play now!

All Aboard!

Become a Junior Conductor on the train by helping the Conductor run the train on time! Seat dinosaurs as they get on the train, feed them, go through the time tunnel and get them home safely. If the train runs on time print your junior conductor gear! Play now!

Window Watcher

Be a Nature Tracker with Buddy as you help him discover all kinds of creatures, including some of the biggest dinosaurs that ever lived! Help him identify the different animals in his field guide. Look closely, they can be hard to spot! Play now!

Buddy’s A-Maze-ing Adventure

Help Buddy get King to the gig as you learn about different dinosaurs along the way! King Cryolophosaurus is expected to give a big performance at the Theropod Convention, but since crowds freak him out, he’s hiding out somewhere in the city. It’s up to Buddy to navigate the busy, maze-like streets of Laramidia to find the King and bring him to the convention. Play now!

Scene Seeker

In this classic “find-the-hidden-object” game you will travel to exciting places to find interesting objects. You will be taken to the Big Spooky Pond, swim under the sea and venture to the cold North Pole to help the Conductor find starfish, pinecones and dinosaurs! Learn interesting facts about different creatures as you discover them! Play now!

Buddy’s Gem Hunt

Help Buddy find a present for the Conductor! Dive deep into a cave to collect crystals of different size, shape, and color. Once all the crystals have been collected, players must sort them before giving them to the Conductor. Play now!
