What's better than capturing memories as a family through photos? Making more memories together by creating a frame to hold the pictures. Have your child use their sense of color and design to imagine this colorful craft, perhaps customizing it to match the picture it will display. They may need help if you use hot glue, but once it's done, they'll have a homemade gift, straight out of their imagination.
Materials:
- Flat-edged frame (of your desired size--mine has a 4" x 6" opening and a 2 1/2" border)
- Stitch.Rock.Love's Sheep(ish) for Caron yarn in colors: Teal(ish) & Lime(ish)
- Craft glue or hot glue gun (adult supervision required)
- Scissors
Instructions
- Remove backing and glass from frame.
- Cut approximately 18 long pieces of both colors of yarn (my pieces were about 40” long).
- Begin wrapping a strand of yarn around the frame from one inside corner to another as follows: with the wrong side of the frame facing you, put a dab of glue and a yarn end at your starting point; wrap yarn around frame edge six times; glue opposite yarn end down; cut off excess. Switch yarn colors and repeat the process until one edge is wrapped. Repeat for the remaining three sides. Let dry.
Note: Hot glue works much faster and easier than regular glue, but is obviously not as kid friendly. Use your best judgment. 
The yarn will likely take up some of the space that was formerly used for the glass and backing, so when putting the frame back together, you have a couple of choices: discard the glass and place the picture and backing into the frame without it, or place the glass and picture into the frame and tape a piece of paper or cardboard to the back to keep everything in place, discarding the original backing. If you choose the latter, then you’ll need to also attach a wall hanger to compensate for the hanger and/or backing stand that were on the original.
