Animal Charades
What You'll Need:
- animal charade cards (available as a PDF)
- scissors
- bag or box to hold cards
How to Prepare:
- Print out the animal charade cards. You will need one card per player. Depending on how many players you will have, you may need to print multiple copies of each page.
- Cut out the cards. Fold each in half and put into the bag or box.
How to Play:
- Have all of the guests sit in an open area.
- Show them one of the animal charade cards as an example. Explain that each card has the name and picture of an animal on it, as well as a hint about how to act it out. Each player is going to draw a card and then act out the animal on the card while the other players try to guess what the animal is. Remind them that the player acting out the animal isn't allowed to talk!
- Ask the first player to come forward and draw one of the cards. If you are playing with younger children, you may want to have an extra adult standing to the side so that children can ask for assistance. After the player looks at the card, let the animal charades begin! If children are having difficulty guessing the animal, the adult helper can give them hints about the animal's size, habitat, or sounds it makes.
- After the first player successfully acts out his or her animal, move on to the next player until all children have had a turn.
Fun Fact!
Some animals move in surprising ways. We may think that fish can only swim, but some fish, like the Walking Catfish can "walk" from pond to pond when its original habitat dries up or after a heavy rainfall.
